How far are major record labels dominating the industry?

  • Record label is 'Atlantic Records'.
  • Coldplay top the Uk cahrts 7 times between the release of new album 'Head full of dreams' in december 2015 to 12th february 2016.
  • Atlantic Records have distributed music for big artists such as Ed Sheeran and Justin Beiber.
  •  Adele is signed to XL Records, which is not a large record label. This shows that Large artists themselves are dominating the industry in some cases more than the record label.

twitter- the past

Twitter: The Past

·         Evan Williams had a start up named ‘Odeo’ that was going to be a podcasting platform originally.

·         An ex- google employee called Biz Stone came to work with Evan.

·         They soon realised that ‘Odeo’ would be irrelevant after the launch of Itunes.

·         Evan, Biz and another employee named Jack Dorsey decided to make a site called ‘Twitter’ instead.

·         Twitter’s name is thought to derive from the name of a photo sharing site called ‘Flickr’ and also gets inspiration from the chirp noises that birds make, as they have connotations to being able to send “short bursts of information”.

·         ‘Odeo’s’ investors at the time had little faith in the idea of twitter and Evan decided to buy back the stocks so that it made them whole again.

·         By March 2006, ‘Odeo’ had made its first prototype of twitter.

·         March 21 2006, Jack sent the first tweet.

·         Twitter became more than just friends sharing their day with people. Soon big organizations were sharing breaking news on twitter before anywhere else.

‘Maybe we’re entering an era where the pleasure of making things is having resurgence’

This video of someone replacing words of the characters of star wars in a parody fashion does prove that pleasure in creating content has resurged because it obviously had taken time and effort and creativity to do it. There are lots of parodies on YouTube so there is a creative resurgence.
